Vacancy Choir Director

A vacancy has arisen for the position of CHOIR DIRECTOR

in St. Colmcille’s Church, Kells, Co. Meath.

The successful candidate will be responsible for our four-part choir and will work closely with our organist.

The role includes directing at Sunday Mass (currently 11am), a weekday rehearsal and also other Parish Liturgical Occasions. Choir season: Sept – May inclusive.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Experience in choral direction
• Knowledge and Structure of Catholic Liturgy
• Excellent communication skills

DESIRED SKILLS:

• A relevant 3rd level qualification
• Experience of working in a parish setting

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Source appropriate liturgical music / hymns to suit abilities and preferences of choir members and paying heed to particular mass / ceremony performing at.
• Rehearsal Planning and Conducting:
  • Develop a rehearsal schedule and plan engaging and effective rehearsals to refine the choir’s musical performance.
  • Organise and prepare music sheets in advance for rehearsals.
  • Conduct rehearsals to guide singers in vocal technique, interpretation, and overall musical expression.
• Lead choir during performances.
• Collaborate with the organist.
• Communicate with choir members and organist in relation to rehearsals and performances.
• Provide ongoing musical education and training to choir members, helping them develop their vocal skills and musical knowledge.
• Cultivate a Positive Learning Environment by Fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the choir, encouraging teamwork, camaraderie, and a shared passion for music.

In line with rates from the Advisory Committee on Church Music (ACCM) to the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference
